Movie Review: From Paris with Love

First up, this movie looks pretty bad.  Secondly, it looks like our predictions for Edge of Darkness last week were just okay (or rather, the ratings predictions were okay, the box office gross predictions were way off)--but more on that in a later post.  The numbers are:

Predicted IMDB rating: 5.7
Predicted first weekend gross: ...more than Edge of Darkness

Find the preview here.

Details after the jump.

The IMDB score
So anyway, the preview looks terrible, and our prediction is appropriately below average.  Sure, there's action, adventure and somewhat-cool music, but in the end, it just fails to impress.  The low statistical prediction likely reflects the fact that the preview is pretty generic.  It doesn't really do anything different from most previews; therefore, it doesn't score many points up from a base value.  Also, what it does actually do falls into the negative categories, so it loses a few points there.

On the more subjective end, there's just something with John Travolta's personality as a sort of good-bad-guy/wildcard-crazy-guy that makes us uneasy.  Perhaps it's because we're not sure if he's acting; he may just be that weird.

The Weekend Gross
Since last week's predictions were pretty far off, we'll refrain from putting a number on this week's prediction (putting Transformers 2 and it's 5-day opening weekend in our sample might have thrown things off).  Suffice it to say that we predict From Paris with Love will gross more than Edge of Darkness, but by how much is hard to tell.  As soon as we compile more data, we'll start putting numbers up again.
